5 Reasons Your Ductless Mini-Split Isn’t Working

February 19, 2021

You chose a ductless mini-split for a number of reasons, such as flexible home zoning, energy efficiency, or even cost-effectiveness. In the winters of West Harrison, IN, you rely on your heating system to keep you and your home warm and comfortable, but what if your ductless mini-split isn’t working? Below are five possible reasons it isn’t working.

1. Improper Signal Within Ductless Mini-Split

A ductless mini-split must be able to communicate with itself. If a mini-split experiences poor signal, the indoor unit might not operate even though it has power, or it operates inconsistently. Or the mini-split may work in one mode, but won’t operate when you choose a different setting.

2. Ductless Mini-Split Leaking Refrigerant

A refrigerant leak is a serious HVAC issue that not only causes trouble for your HVAC system but also trouble for your indoor air quality. While refrigerant leaks aren’t too common, there are signs to look for that will tell you if you have a refrigerant leak. These signs include reduced heating power, hissing noises and tiny bubbles showing up where the leak is.

3. Odd Noises

Just as with your car, if your mini-split starts making unusual noises, it’s time for a professional to come to perform repairs or maintenance. Some noises to keep an ear out for include rattling, hissing and buzzing noises.

4. Clog in Condensate Line

Clogs in the condensate line are a problem for a ductless mini-split. Bacteria and other biological growth can build up in the condensate line, which could cause water damage.

5. Water Leaks

Water leaks are another serious issue. One cause of a water leak is an improperly pitched drain line, which must be at a 5-degree angle. If you have a condensate pump experiencing leaking, have it checked for proper wiring.
